Compliance isn't optional — and the clock is ticking
Starting January 1, 2025, CMS mandates health plans measure and report appointment wait times through secret shopper surveys. The survey will need to cover both in-person and telehealth appointments. Survey requirements vary between the various products, requiring different survey protocols and reporting. Notably, this process cannot be done in-house, but instead needs to be outsourced to an independent third-party partner not affiliated with the health plan. CMS now requires Qualified Health Plans to
- Conduct secret shopper surveys for primary care, behavioral health, and telehealth
- Meet a 90% compliance rate with statistical accuracy
- Submit detailed reports to CMS by May 31, 2025
